National Emergency Planning Summit

   25 May 2010

The past year has shown Ireland is far from being immune to uncertainty and challenge. The flooding tragedy last year has left some serious questions about Ireland's response to national emergencies. Recent severe weather conditions have seen a shortage of road salt supplies resulting in a serious disruption of services, bringing large regions of this isle to a standstill.

What should be done next? What lessons can be drawn? What measures need to be put in place in order to prevent the return of floods?

The National Emergency Management Summit seeks to assess future risks and articulate practical approaches to strategies for planning, response and recovery. This event will provide an insight into the challenges facing councils, and other parties in maintaining services. It will look at managing the impact on communities, while also keeping a focus on wider risks.
